How IoT Impact Our Everyday Life
The Internet of Things (IoT) may be a novel phenomenon just out of its infancy stage but it has already permeated every aspect of our lives significantly. What exactly is IoT? Well, IoT is a system of interrelated computing devices, object and digital machines among others that have been given UIDs and the ability to transfer data over a network without the need of either human or computer interaction. A thing in I0T can be a human being, an animal, a fridge or even a car that has been assigned an IP address hence is able to transfer data over a network.
How IoT works
At the ore of the IoT ecosystem consist web-enabled smart devices that utilize sensors, embedded processors, and communication hardware to capture, send and act upon data from their environments. After collecting data, the IoT devices then share it via an IoT gateway to the cloud where the data is analyzed. In some networks, the data is analyzed locally. Occasionally, these devices communicate with other related devices and process the information they receive from each other. These devices do most of the work without intervention. The connectivity, networking and communication protocols that are used with IoT devices vary according to the applications deployed.
The way in which IoT impacts our lives
IoT is re-inventing the physical world as we know it. It is supporting new possibilities that we could not have imagined before. Discussed below are the several ways in which IoT impacts our day to day lives.
Driving and Traffic
IoT has enabled the enhancement of refrigerators. Smart refrigerators embody built-in cameras to enable users to check their content as they are out shopping. This way, they are able to identify what has run out and hence replenish their stock. They can also send reminders to the user’s smartphone notifying them whenever they are running low on grocery. The refrigerators send a grocery list to the smartphone.

IoT has revolutionized the healthcare in numerous ways. Doctors are now are able to monitor their patients in real time even when the patients are in the comfort of their home. This reduced the time required for patient care in the hospital. Various companies now manufacture smart pills that help in the monitoring of health issues, adherence, and medication controls. The pills dissolve in the stomach then transmit signals to the sensor that is worn by the patient. There are also numerous devices that have been introduced to help in the monitoring of conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, and depression.
IoT is now being used to enhance energy efficiency in both homes and factories. It is used to collect data on energy consumption hence alerting users in the case of spikes and plots usage pattern hence predicting the consumption demand. All this monitoring is done in real time. The data obtained can be used to manage energy consumption with the goal of achieving energy efficiency.
Wearable technology has become very common. With the growing competition to capture this growing market, manufacturers have been working very hard to produce products that will stand out in the crowded market. For many, IoT has become the answer. IoT has in many ways enabled manufacturers to mitigate signal and power integrity which are critical features among wearable user.
IoT is rapidly encroaching our day to day lives in the way we did not anticipate. Needless to say, it is making our lives better and more adventurous. The extent to which IoT better our lives further can only be left to time.
